Stan Mott

Longtime Ottawa Centre member, Librarian, eclipse chaser, meteor observer. Service Award 1980.

STANLEY A. MOTT began observing meteors in the '30s. It was an interest which he would maintain for thirty years not only as an observer but as an organizer and co-ordinator on the local and national scene. He was also a generous donor to the Ottawa Centre's Observatory Fund and an enthusiastic participant in many eclipse expeditions from 1952-79.

He joined the Ottawa Centre Council as Treasurer in 1947 and served in that capacity for over a decade He then became the Centre Librarian, a post which he continues to hold 33 years later. The citation for Stan Mott's Service Award in 1980 pointed out that he "built up an outstanding library of some 300 books, often by contributing his own money to the Library Fund. He is present at all lecture meetings and opens the library at every meeting of the Observers' Group." In 1984, the Centre honoured him by mounting a plaque naming their library the "Stan Mott Library."
