ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF CANADA COMET AND NOVA SECTION Comet and nova Search Areas: Part I. From Declination 0° to 90°N. The number on the circumference are hours of Right Ascension, and each small dash represents 20 minutes of time. Small numbers along the 00h and 12h lines are degrees of declination. The purpose of this chart is to enable the observer to find the range of his area in Right Ascension and Declination. The observer should make a copy of his area from a star atlas showing stars to at least sixth magnitude. Novae are most likely to appear in areas 1 to 175, while comets may appear in any area. ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF CANADA COMET AND NOVA SECTION Comet and Nova Search Areas: Part II. From Declination 0° to 50°S. Please refer to Part I for explanation of charts. To be strictly correct, Right Ascension should be anti-clock- wise on chart II, but since the purpose of the chart is to enable the observer to find the position of his area, it was felt that it would be best if the numbering appeared to progress in the same direction on both charts. Since the sky south of declination 50°S. cannot be seen from Canada, no areas south of declination are given. [MAP] C & N Form #5 - 1 (Rev. 2/64)
